Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments Podcast' Season Four Episode Two

Electric Ireland, proud sponsor of the Electric Ireland Camogie Minor Championships and the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Championships, has today released Season Four, Episode Two of the ‘GAA Minor Moments’ podcast, featuring former Waterford Camogie player Dr Patricia Jackman.
This week, host Fergal O’Keeffe sits down with the Camogie legend to chat about her time on the field with Waterford, her sports psychology research at the University of Lincoln, and the lessons that can be learned through playing sport growing up and beyond.
From a young age Patricia had a keen interest in sport and Camogie, making her under 16 debut for Waterford at just 12 years of age. Going on to represent the Déise at all levels, Patricia became the first Camogie player ever to win Waterford GAA Player of the Year after her success in the 2015 All-Ireland Intermediate final.
Throughout the episode Patricia reflects on how far Camogie has come in Waterford from comments of ‘they don’t play Camogie in Waterford’ when she was growing up, to triumph in the under 16 B All-Ireland Championships in 2003. A significant title as this was Waterford’s first ever Camogie victory across any age group in the 99th year of the Camogie Association. Taking great pride in the trajectory of the sport - Patricia delves into the setbacks and heartbreaks that were all part of the journey.
Patricia shines a light on her fascination with sports science and the psychology of sport growing up; watching matches, dissecting warm-ups and reading books to feed a great curiosity into both the physical and mental side of the game. Emphasising the importance of sport in all aspects of our lives, Patricia highlight’s themes of relationships, transferable skills and how we can benefit from a holistic approach to both sport and life.
Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments’ Podcast will air on Tuesdays throughout the Electric Ireland Camogie & GAA Minor Championships as well-known Irish stars share memories from their early sporting careers, reflecting on the defining moments from playing Minor and how it shaped them, both on and off the pitch.
This season, Fergal will be joined by a host of excellent guests including Emma O’Byrne of Dublin, Michael Duignan of Offaly, Ciaran Murphy of Galway and many more as they reflect on their time spent playing Minor and shed light on some great personal stories.
