Electric Ireland releases Season Four Episode One of Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments Podcast

Electric Ireland, proud sponsor of the Electric Ireland Camogie Minor Championships and the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Championships, has today released Season Four, Episode One of the ‘GAA Minor Moments’ podcast, featuring former Cork and Dublin Camogie player Sarah O’Donovan. This is third year of Electric Ireland’s title sponsorship of the Camogie Minor Championships.

Host Fergal O’Keeffe sits down with the Camogie legend to chat on her time on the field with both Cork and Dublin, the ups and downs Sarah has experienced in sport, a major moment from her minor career and the advice she would offer to the minor class of 2024/25.

Raised in a GAA-focused household, O'Donovan credits her father for fostering her sporting passion and ensuring that she had access to female role models, such as Cork Camogie legend Lynn Dunlea. The Innishannon native discusses her transition from playing to punditry, highlighting how her on-field experience informs her insightful and direct commentary.

In her long history of achievements on the pitch, O'Donovan picks out her selection for the 1999 Cork Minor squad and mentioned it was ‘the pinnacle of everything’. She recounts the feeling of reaching a goal that she had worked towards for so long and ringing her dad as “golden”. Sarah tells upcoming minor players to "just focus on the ball” - advising them to block out the noise of the sidelines and the crowds, and concentrate on what matters most.

As part of a rising generation of now iconic players like Anna Geary, the eager Sarah O'Donovan drove high standards from a young age in Cork Camogie. A period spent in Australia in 2007 prompted her to reflect on whether greater patience might have prolonged her intercounty career. Upon returning to Ireland, O'Donovan picked the hurl back up, this time representing the sky blue of Dublin. Later in the episode she shares her appreciation for her family’s support, her experiences with different managers, and the unique challenge of facing her home county Cork in Parnell Park as a Dub.

Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments’ Podcast will air on Tuesdays throughout the Electric Ireland Camogie & GAA Minor Championships as well-known Irish stars share memories from their early sporting careers, reflecting on the defining moments from playing Minor and how it shaped them, both on and off the pitch.

This season, Fergal will be joined by a host of excellent guests including Patricia Jackman of Waterford, Emma O’Byrne of Dublin and many more as they reflect on their time spent playing Minor and shed light on some great personal stories.
