Dublin Home shines bright for 10th Year to raise funds for Youth Mental Health Charity supported by Electric Ireland

This Christmas, Electric Ireland has proudly partnered with Dublin homeowner Dylan Walsh, a cherished community figure known in Finglas for transforming his home into a dazzling holiday light display each year.

For the past decade, Dylan’s festive wonderland has brought joy to his neighbourhood, while raising almost €55,000 for vital charities over the past five years alone. This year, Dylan’s display will support ‘Hear Me Out’, a youth mental health project at Finglas Youth Resource Centre

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the tradition and to support Dylan’s charitable efforts, Electric Ireland has donated and installed eight solar panels and a home battery system in his home. These panels will sustainably power the thousands of Christmas lights, reducing Dylan’s energy costs throughout the year, allowing him to invest more in his annual fundraiser.

Speaking about the initiative, Dylan Walsh said: “This year marks the 10th year of my Christmas lights display, and I’m so grateful to Electric Ireland for supporting me and making the display more sustainable. The solar panels and battery system will now power the lights and allow me to focus on raising funds for charity.”

“It’s wonderful to see how something as simple as Christmas lights can bring people together for a good cause, and put a smile on their face,” he continued.

The solar panels and battery system are expected to save approximately €900 annually on electricity costs while significantly reducing Dylan’s carbon footprint. This initiative demonstrates the power of combining community spirit and sustainability to create a lasting impact.

About the Initiative

For over a decade, Dylan has turned his home in Cappagh Green, Finglas, into a spectacular Christmas lights display, and raised almost €55,000 for charity. This year’s display, powered by solar panels, marks a milestone in sustainability and community giving. By reducing energy costs and carbon emissions, the solar panels will ensure Dylan’s beloved tradition continues to bring joy for years to come.

The campaign highlights the importance of sustainability during the festive season, proving that even cherished traditions can evolve to embrace renewable energy.
