Episode six of Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments’ Podcast with former Offaly hurler, Brian Whelahan
Electric Ireland, proud sponsor of the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Championships, has released the sixth episode of its new podcast ‘GAA Minor Moments’, featuring former Offaly hurler and four-time All-Star, Brian Whelahan, as he reminisces on a thrilling hurling career.
In this week’s episode, Brian looks back at his playing days with Offaly, days that were frequently defined by his rivalry with Clare, from captaining Offaly to his second All-Ireland Minor hurling title against Clare in 1989 to the five legendary games against Clare and Clarecastle in 1998.
As he reflects on his time as a Minor, Brian talks about the importance of having pride in the game and oneself, especially as a young player. He also recalls a defining Minor Moment when Declan Pilkington scored an all-important goal in Croke Park to win the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship in 1986, a moment Brian says set Offaly on their way and gave him a huge amount of confidence in his own development.
Electric Ireland’s ‘GAA Minor Moments’ Podcast will air every Tuesday as well-known Irish stars share memories from their early sporting careers, reflecting on the defining moments from playing Minor and how it shaped them, both on and off the pitch.
The podcast will run for ten weeks over the course of the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Championship, featuring a new guest each week from a star-studded line up. This will include Danny O’Reilly, Sean McGrath, Conal Keaney and many more as they reflect on their time spent playing Minor and shed light on some great personal stories.
