Electric Ireland brings, Johnny Logan and the ‘slow set’ to Electric Picnic
Today, Electric Ireland announce its third, and final, headline act for its Throwback Stage – the man they call ‘Mr. Eurovision’, the legend, Johnny Logan. Setting the scene for Johnny’s hotly anticipated arrival – in a novel addition to the festival line up – will be Electric Picnic’s first ever ‘slow set’.
Once a staple in nightclubs and discos across Ireland, the ‘slow set’ has virtually disappeared from Irish culture. As an evening drew towards a close, the rhythm would slow, and the DJ would spin some romantic songs – perfect for sparking electricity with potential mate. From slow songs and power ballads to golden oldies, the ‘slow set’ at Electric Picnic will get festival revelers in the mood before ‘King of the slow set’ Johnny Logan, takes to the stage.

JOHNNY LOGAN
Johnny released his first song in 1978. He is perhaps best known for bringing back first place at not one, but two Eurovision song contests with What’s Another Year and Hold Me Now, the only performer ever to have done this twice. He also composed a Eurovision winning song Why Me - while another song of his, Terminal 3, came second place a different year. Johnny continues to write and perform, enjoying his best success in Scandinavia – but for Electric Picnic weekend, Electric Ireland are bringing him home.
Speaking of the announcement, Johnny Logan said: "After years and years of gigging very successfully around Europe, millions of record sales, performing for heads of state from The Queen of England to Pope John Paul at The Vatican and now I‘ve finally been asked to play on the Electric Ireland’s Throwback Stage at this year’s Electric Picnic! I am more than delighted and really looking forward to it. The slow set is the perfect way to set the mood before I take to the stage. So many people share their memories of dancing to some of my songs, during the ‘slow set’ back in the day. I really hope people get into the spirit, and enjoy the ‘slow set’, a novel thing in the middle of a festival I’m sure! "
