Embarking on a Net Zero journey is essential for a sustainable future. By reducing our carbon footprint, we can protect our environment and fight climate change. At Electric Ireland, our mission is to lead Ireland into a net zero future by empowering customers to make sustainable, responsible, and affordable choices in their energy choices. Making your world brighter in everything we do.

The good news is it’s not difficult to get started. Simple actions like reducing waste and energy consumption will help make a significant impact. That’s why Electric Ireland is excited to introduce the Brighter Ideas Challenge, a week-long series of fun, energy-saving activities designed for kids and their families. Each day, we’ll be setting a new challenge aimed at educating your little ones about conserving energy and reducing waste at home. The best part? These challenges are easy, fun, and great for the planet!

Are you ready to turn your home into an energy-efficient powerhouse this mid-term break?

Here’s what you can expect:

Day 1: Power Down Challenge

Turn off those power-hungry appliances!

Did you know that leaving your chargers, game consoles and TV sets on standby still uses up energy? By turning them off completely when not in use, you can reduce your household energy consumption by as much as 7%. It’s a simple habit that will make a big difference!

Day 2: Water-Saving Shower Challenge

Quick showers, big savings!

Long baths are great, but short showers use up far less energy and water. By challenging your family to limit showers to 5 minutes, you’ll save up to 20% on energy costs. And it’s just as refreshing!

Day 3: Light Out Challenge

Keep those lights off when they’re not needed!

A simple habit to teach kids is to turn off lights when they leave a room. Turning off just one light for a few hours can reduce its energy consumption by 10%. Over a week, this adds up quickly!

Day 4: Screen-Free Family Night

Unplug and reconnect!

Instead of spending an evening watching TV or using other electronics, why not have a family games night? Not only does it save electricity, but it’s also a fun way to spend time together without screens. Powering down for just one evening can save around 100 watts of electricity per hour.

Day 5: No-Oven Bake Off Challenge

Bake without the oven!

Ovens are big energy consumers, but you can still whip up delicious treats like fridge cakes or energy balls without turning on the oven - and save up to 1.5 kWh per hour. Here are some recipe ideas to get you started.

With these fun challenges, your family can make a real impact on household energy consumption, while learning valuable habits that last a lifetime. For more great energy savings tips visit our Interactive House
