What does one kWh do?

Understanding what electricity does for your business in real terms is the first step towards a solid energy efficiency plan. To give you an idea of how powerful a kWh is for example, you should consider that only ¼ of a kWh will run a laptop (rated 22 Watts) for 11 hours.

More specifically, 1 kWh will handle the following tasks:

  • Will run a photocopier/scanner/fax machine (rated 375 Watts) for 2 ½ hours.
  • Will run a PC desktop with a traditional 17” CRT monitor for 5 ¾ hours or a PC desktop with a 15’’ flat screen LCD monitor for 8 hours.
  • Will run a wall-mounted electric convector heater for 30 minutes.
  • Will run an electric cooker oven for 17 minutes.
  • Will run a power shower pumped from an immersion tank (rated 450 Watts) for 2 ¼ hours.
  • Will run one T8 fluorescent lamp for 31 hours, 15 minutes.
